We're now planting in North Sumatra, Indonesia!

278,000 trees have been planted in collaboration with local conservation groups, in one of the richest rainforest ecosystems in the world. Gunung Leuser National Park is a global biodiversity hotspot - home to an unfathomable number of species - and the only place on Earth where orangutans, tigers, rhinos and elephants coexist in the wild.

Diversity at Scale

We've embarked on what might be Australia's largest and most diverse rainforest reforestation project. In close collaboration with the landholder, we have planted 290,000 trees of 192 native species.

Located in Northern NSW, the plantings extend from Booyong Nature Reserve - a remnant of the critically endangered "Big Scrub" ecosystem and home to an array of threatened flora and fauna.

We are proud of what we have achieved so far together, but our efforts continue - incl. the ongoing maintenance of these trees for up to 5 years.

CEO update
2025: RN establishes 3 new operational bases across Australasia
This year marks a major step forward for RN, with the establishment of three stable operational bases across the Australasian region. These new hubs reflect our growing capacity, regional commitment, and long-term vision for rainforest restoration.
These three new bases represent RN’s expanding commitment to ecological restoration, local livelihoods, and the future of rainforests in Australasia and beyond. As we continue to scale up, we remain deeply rooted in our mission: to restore native rainforests, protect biodiversity, and empower local communities. 2025 is our most ambitious growth year yet!

Warm regards,
Maximo Bottaro – CEO ReForest Now

Mullumbimby, Australia

Our new base of operations in Mullumbimby is now underway, incl. a new nursery, office and depot to centralise our operations.

Since 2018 RN’s Australia team (now at 37 staff), has worked  without having a real base, so this new one-stop facility is a welcome milestone to centre the team's needs. From here, we should see RN connect more with Landcare groups, increase the availability of our stock to the public and work closer with government - all as we approach the incredible milestone of 1 million Australian rainforest trees planted!

Bali, Indonesia

A new branch has been established in Bali to serve as a second administration centre and a hub for fundraising, canvassing and global outreach. Just three months in, our Bali base now supports a small team of 6 and aims to grow to 18 in the next 9 months. Bali acts as an anchor and centrepoint for operations throughout several new exciting projects in the Indonesian islands, as well as other SEA nations nearby in 206. RN means to take regionally responsibility for caring for critically endangered rainforests and their species.

Gunung Leuser National Park, Sumatra

We have also seen the firm establishment of RN’s presence in the Gunung Leuser National Park in Sumatra, where our base of operations has been expanded to house more workers, along with significant infrastructure improvements such as safe access to work, a communications tower, and a significant amount of support and equipment for 54 local team members. In under 2 years, we've planted nearly 300 000 native trees in the region and our work has growth to include forest protection services and regular training in planting, maintenance and rainforest regeneration.

Rainforests for Resilience

Australia’s landscapes are shaped by extremes — from intense bushfires to devastating floods. Both have become more frequent and severe with a changing climate, leaving lasting impacts on ecosystems and communities alike.

Bushfires can scorch even the most resilient forests, destroying habitat, releasing vast amounts of carbon, and threatening biodiversity that has evolved over millennia. In contrast, floods wash away soil, uproot vegetation, and pollute waterways, often following directly after fires when the land is most vulnerable.

Healthy rainforests play a vital role in softening these blows. Their dense canopies keep the land cool and moist, their deep roots hold the soil firm,  and their complex ecosystems store carbon and support wildlife. By restoring and expanding rainforest habitats, we help to stabilise landscapes, reduce erosion, protect catchments, and build natural resilience against future disasters.

Our ongoing reforestation and bush regeneration work strengthens both nature and community — ensuring that what grows back is not just green, but enduring.

We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land we work on and thank them for protecting ecosystems since time immemorial.
